As a house parent to a sweet six-year old at French Camp Academy in MS, whose mother died when he was five, I'd bought this book to have to read to him when I sensed the time was right. Sadly, the time was right yesterday when both his mother's mother and her husband died tragically.There's a place in the front that says "Dear _____" so you can write the child's name, and it has a personal message from the person who has died. When his other grandfather read that to him, his face broke into such a smile. (This was after we'd read the book to him.)This little boy, who is often withdrawn and sullen in his grief appeared genuinely comforted as I read this book to him and he pictured his mother with Jesus, full of life and joy, and love for him.In that context, I told him that his grandmother's husband who he knew was very sick, was hurting so badly, he asked Jesus if he could come be with Him, and that Jesus said yes. And that then his Grandmother was so sad that her husband was gone, and she also missed his mother so much, that she asked Jesus if she could come too. And Jesus said yes to her too.I was then able to turn to the page in the book where it talks about how one day she will welcome the loved one to heaven with a great big hug, and told him how that's what his mom did as soon as she saw his grandmother and her husband. He smiled at that.I'm sure there will be many questions as he gets older, but for now, I can't say enough about how very thankful I was to have this book for this little boy. I told him he could read it again and again and ask others to read it to him.As they left for the funeral, he tucked it in his jacket. And I ordered another copy. It's just one of those books I think I need to always have on hand, ready for when I need it.
I purchased this e-book to read to my son who recently had a classmate pass away in a tragic accident. Although this book is written more from the voice of a parent who has passed away to their child, it still was a very comforting book for my child. The illustrations were simple but perfect for this book. I love that there are passages from the Bible within the story. The book also explains what the Bible says heaven will be like and what heaven will not be like. No more pain, sadness, death, bad things.... I also love that the author included in the book that only God knows how long each one of us will live and we can not hurry that process to get to heaven to see loved ones sooner. Great job, I will recommend this book to my friends.
I need more stars for this book! It is excellent! The only thing that would make it better would be to have another one pictured specifically with a father - this story is about a mother going to heaven - but it can still be used with a child who has lost their father. It would just be nice to be able to be able to personalize the story more to cover both situations. But it says everything I would want my child to know if I knew I was going to be leaving them behind for a while. Very hopeful and encouraging for a child.
I really like this book for the purpose of encouragement, for younger children experiencing grief. This book is a wonderful blessing for opening a discussion with a child that has lost a love one. It can give the child an opportunity to talk about how he feels and where he is in the healing process. The writer did an excellent job explaining heaven in an easy to read book that is believable for young children.
This is not just a book for children, but a book for anyone who ever has lost a loved one who is now in heaven. My husband died after a long illness. Although our adult children understand on a cognitive level how much rejoicing there is that their daddy is free of his earthly body, their hearts still ache for him. This book reminds us of the truths of heaven and the loved ones that go there before us. It was so healing just to read it aloud to myself!
This book was written and illustrated simply in a way that connects with young children. It gives the truth about death and heaven from both perspectives without fluff that is unrealistic that would cause future doubt. This book gave me a good way to discuss this topic with my kids while providing scripture references. The best part is that it doesn't leave you without hope, but instead shows the true way to heaven with God.
I just read this to my granddaughter who is 10 years old and lost her Daddy (my son) when she was 6. This book was very comforting to both of us and to her grandfather. We enjoyed reading this together and felt like he was here with us!!! C:o)
A great resource to have for anyone who has children who have lost someone close to them. It's easy to read and is easy for children to understand. I'm glad I bought it for my nephew who just lost his Grandmother. It is written for people of faith, but it could help any child really. It's very well done.
