Hold on Tight by J. Kenner is the second book in her new 12 book Man of the Month series. Told in dual POV this is the second chance love story of Spencer Dean and Brooke Hamlin and the series story arc of this larger group of friends efforts to save their favorite bar, The Fix on Sixth.Spencer and Brooke have a past together. It's complicated if you know all the details as we readers do early on, and heartbreaking when you only know some of the details as poor Spencer has only known for the past few years. He is set for revenge on Brooke, she is, after all, the one who broke his heart and has ruined all relationships for him after their split.Brooke has been carrying the secret reason for leaving Spencer on her shoulders alone for a long time. She is still head over heels in love with him and had the best of reasons for what she did. Unfortunately, she never told him why and now, having to work together on their home improvement show filming renovations at The Fix, things get complicated and heated FAST.Well-written and well-paced, this was another great read and I'm excited with how each of the upcoming characters are gently weaved into the plots in earlier stories without being obtrusive to the current story. Enjoy!
Wow, J Kenner does it again with book 2 in the Man of the Month series. The story is fun, sexy and witty with great characters amongst a fun backdrop.Spencer Dean is from the wrong side of the tracks - so when he meets Brooke Hamlin all those years ago he knew that she was to good for him. After 3 years together and with Spencer on the verge of getting his big break as a reality star with his own renovation show Brooke leaves him at the altar. Now back in Austin trying to clean up his life he is forced to work with Brooke on a new show renovating The Fix a local Austin bar. While Brooke is still beautiful - Spencer know now is the time to finally pay Brook back for breaking his heart all those years ago.Brooke Hamlin is trying to make it on her own and renovating The Fix is just the way to do it. Being forced to work with Spencer though is not what she had in mind. Still, in love with him she knows he is hurt and angry about what happened 5 yrs ago, while her reasons are noble it doesn't take away the pain they both feel. Now she needs to work with Spencer in order to take her career to the next level, that is, of course, they can get past their hurt and their past.I loved Spencer and Brooke both together and separate. J Kenner takes the classic second chance romance and gives it a whole new dimension. The story is filled with angst, misunderstanding and some dark subject matter that will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions that makes up end up rooting for them. We also get to see some of the characters from book 1 (I love Brent) along with meeting some new characters whom I think are up next.Hold on Tight is a great winter read that continues the Man of the Month series in a great way. I can not wait for book 3.
