This book is for beginners, and it is TINY / thin for the price, check the specs before buying. I had hoped to learn about swirling resin colors and other techniques, but it stays very basic. The author uses sculpey almost exclusively for his sculptures it seems, and that is the only sculpting material he mentions. I was irritated that it was missing info I'd expected to find, but the author's dislike of mold release is mentioned at least three times. I had reconciled myself to believing the book was intended for children, and was considering passing it along to a kid, but it prominently features the F word in one of the pictures towards the end. I have seen the author's youtube vids, he does nice work / seems like a nice guy, but I found this book disappointing for the price. This hobby / occupation can be expensive, and this book was an expense I could have skipped.
This is a short and basic introduction to sculpting, mold making, and painting a vinyl toy. It is more inspiration than instruction but gives you enough information to get started and let's you work out the rest. The book could have benefitted from just a little more depth on why the author gives you the instructions he does, but that does not detract from the value of the book as-is.
This book give alot of info on one of my favorite past times. The section are not to long and allows for it to sink in.
Jay has a funny and down to earth way of teaching the art of making your own toys. He explains everything clearly and concisely, this book and his Youtube videos were, and still are, a go to reference when I need some help with casting my own charms and characters.
jay moores is the man. ive been casting resin for about a year and jay got me started. concise. everything u need to jump in resin casting. jays own pieces offer plenty of inspiration and he lays out all the groundwork for the perspiration part. check it out!
